A few blogs ago I talked about a bad experience bra shopping, well in reality that is nothing compared to what some go through! The shopping world can be a mean and cruel place for some. Now you are probably dropping your jaw or rolling your eyes after that statement but that is because your eyes have not been open to this side of shopping.
( This blog is meant to put another perspective on shopping, while at the same time bring hope for change in the way we market and display clothes so we can all have the same enjoyable experience)
I'm going to start by asking a question. How many of you have gone into a store and fell in LOVE with an article of clothing? A coat, must have jeans, or an adorable top. Whatever the case may be. Then you go and look and they have a million Mediums and larges, but are completely out of XS and XL? I know it has happen, and this is why I want to discuss this with everyone.
For some, shopping is awesome. Pulling things off the racks left and right. Fashionistas! You know what I mean, you did so great that your arm feels nothing but relief when you finally hit that register. Well it isn't always that way!
Like how many stores have you seen where the "plus sizes" are on a whole separate floor, or you walk in and there is a divider between the "misses" and "plus". How do you think that makes people feel? Would you enjoy having to walk on the other side of that wall knowing that the only reason you are walking that way is because your tag is bigger than the ones on the right side of the wall. Does that not seem shallow? Okay take that same scenario in a marketing sense. You could have a store with twice as much clothing in it by filling both sides up will all sizes. Instead we decide to make the store in two but both sides with the same items, but tags are different. Yep, that makes sense.......NOT! Take a moment and picture how you would feel when that little ding dong from the doorbell goes off and now the whole store is looking up seeing that someone just walked into the building, now you have to choose LEFT or RIGHT and all eyes are on you. My boat definitely wouldn't be floating with that!
Scenario# 2: What happens when you go into store and you go and reach for the zeros and get those daggering looks because of that damn tag. What about when you go into a store and the extra smalls aren't made by this manufacturer. Imagine what it is like to have to order all your clothes online.
All of a sudden something that should be deemed as fun and enjoyable not so much! I love shopping, but if I had to be put through such situations, I'd rather pass. My hope is that someday we won't have to worry so much about it. My closet deserves to be just as colorful and packed as anyone else's and Vice versa. I hope it can soon be that way!
Readers, I hope you enjoyed this and maybe got a different perspective on shopping.
Until Next time
